Think WIoT: Martin Dobler on supply chain visibility
In the trade magazine Think WIoT, our managing director Martin Dobler explains how global and local positioning, sensors and cloud analytics work together — and why tracking data only creates value once it explains container cycles, dwell times and stock levels.
Where are containers and load carriers, how long do their cycles take, and where do losses occur? Anja Van Bocxlaer discussed these questions with our managing director Martin Dobler for the trade magazine Think WIoT.
The radio technology is not the centre of it. Martin Dobler puts it plainly in the interview: “The hardware is, after all, just a means to an end.” Our architecture combines several layers — LTE for the worldwide view, Bluetooth Low Energy and RTLS on site, where one tracker also acts as a gateway for the low-cost BLE tags around it.
What matters is what becomes of the data. In the rtls cloud it is consolidated and analysed for asset cycles. Findings such as “You have 10 percent of your assets here. They aren’t moving at all.” reveal excess stock, containers in the wrong cycles and unnecessarily long dwell times. Asset tracking thus becomes asset management.
